What should I revise for the FRTOL?
The practical assesses standard radio calls across a flight: departure, en-route services, zone and MATZ transits, arrivals and circuit calls, plus urgency (PAN PAN) and distress (MAYDAY) procedures and mandatory readbacks. The examiner is listening for correct CAP 413 phraseology and format.
How long does FRTOL revision take?
It varies by student. The practical tests whether you can produce each call promptly and in the standard form, which is a speaking skill — so repetition out loud matters more than re-reading notes. Short, frequent spoken practice beats long reading sessions.
